First appearance: iv the tale of a detective
As a supporting figure in The Man Who Was Thursday, Gogol is not background color—the story leans on what they do once the chapter opens.
Gogol, called Tuesday, is a Polish anarchist with a wild bush of hair and beard, wearing a top hat and frock-coat.
Gogol sits among the seven masked anarchists as the hairy, foreign-looking Pole, but when Sunday unmasks him his thin red hair and pert London voice betray the detective beneath. He takes his exposure with nonchalance, even pride in his own accent-work, and walks out with a stumble that betrays his assumed ease. His unmasking is the first crack in the Council's theatre, teaching Syme that everyone in this game may be playing a part.
