Who is Wendy Darling?

Wendy is the eldest Darling child — storyteller, rule-maker, and the girl Peter chooses to mother his band in Neverland. She flies between nursery play and real responsibility, mending clothes underground and fearing for her brothers. Wendy loves Peter but understands before he does that Neverland cannot be her life.

Her arc carries the book’s heart: she accepts adulthood, returns to Mr. and Mrs. Darling, and later allows her daughter Jane to meet Peter. Wendy is not a passive “girl” role; she negotiates power with Peter, defies mermaids, and chooses home when Peter forgets her. Teaching Peter and Wendy means centering Wendy’s choices, not only Peter’s sparkle.
