Family and Duty
How When God Laughs develops Family and Duty.
Themes of familial obligation appear in 'On Created He Them,' where a brother forces an alcoholic sibling into treatment, and in 'The Apostate,' where a mother drives her son to work despite his exhaustion, highlighting duty's harsh demands.
Where it surfaces
- Created He Them
George's sense of duty drives him to extreme measures to save his brother, while Al's failure to fulfill his familial role is a central conflict.
