Growth and Maturation

Alice's journey from a pawn to a queen mirrors the process of growing up, with Humpty Dumpty telling her she should have 'left off at seven' and the Queens subjecting her to absurd examinations.

Alice's journey toward becoming a Queen symbolizes her growth and maturation, as she is guided by the White Knight to the next stage.

Growth and Maturation is one of the patterns Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll returns to. The chapter notes above are from this edition’s companions — open those chapters to see how the book stages the idea rather than treating the theme as a slogan.
