The Wonderful Wizard of Oz · Concept
Friendship and loyalty
Dorothy’s party succeeds because they protect one another — Oz rewards alliance more than solo heroism.
From Munchkin road to Quadling country, the four travelers share risks: carrying Lion from poppies, oiling Tin Woodman, Scarecrow’s plans against kalidahs and wolves. Dorothy never abandons companions even when shoes might tempt solo flight. Loyalty earns winged monkeys’ final aid and Glinda’s respect.
Friendship theme balances home-longing — you can love friends made on road while still returning to Em. Baum’s sequels extend companionship, but first book closes with Scarecrow ruling Emerald City, Tin Woodman Winkies, Lion forest — each finds place while Dorothy finds Kansas. Use rescue chapters and witch siege as evidence of mutual dependence.
