Who is Mr. Toad?

Mr. Toad is wealthy proprietor of Toad Hall — boastful, kind-hearted, easily swept by new fads, especially motorcars. He ignores Rat, Mole, and Badger’s advice, lands in court and prison, escapes as washerwoman, and eventually helps retake his house from weasels.

Toad supplies comic energy and moral lesson on pride. Grahame enjoys his songs and tears alike. Answers should balance affection and criticism — friends save him because he is worth saving, not because he is wise.
