First appearance: X: Tierra del Fuego
As a supporting figure in The Voyage of the Beagle, Fuegia Basket is not background color—the story leans on what they do once the chapter opens.
A young Fuegian woman also being returned to Tierra del Fuego.
Fuegia is the youngest of the three Fuegians carried to England and back, quiet but remarkably fast at languages, learning Portuguese and Spanish during brief shore stops. Her pleasing but sometimes sullen expression and York's possessiveness make her the still center of the passengers' small dramas. She matters because her return home raises the voyage's hardest question: what happens to a person taught to belong elsewhere?
