Gender Roles and Agency

Eileen Holland subverts traditional female roles by actively participating in espionage as a decoy, yet her actions are often directed by male commanders, reflecting both her agency and the constraints of her era.

Eileen asserts her patriotic duty ('For my country I would, to any lengths!') while von Belke struggles with the idea of her as a decoy and his own possessive feelings.

Eileen asserts her agency by choosing to serve her country and later accepting Blacklock's affection on her own terms.
