As a supporting figure in The Man in Lower Ten, Sammy Forbes is not background color—the story leans on what they do once the chapter opens.
Hosts Blakeley at his seaside home, jokes about Blakeley's past, and mentions Alison's worry.
Sam is the explosively generous host whose Shack becomes a refuge where Alison West is staying with his wife, Dorothy. He sees more than he lets on, confiding that Alison is worried and that she cannot be read like a book. His easy hospitality and blunt affection for Allie make him the hinge on which Blakeley's pursuit of her turns.
