Jacky Garrideb

Presenting himself as John Garrideb of Moorville, Kansas, he arrives at Baker Street insisting on a share of a peculiar inheritance tied to the Garrideb name, and he is visibly rattled when Holmes deduces from his coat and boots that he has been in England far longer than he admits. His affable, childlike face and his sudden bursts of anger pull in opposite directions, and his impatience with Nathan Garrideb's decision to involve a detective reads less like a wronged beneficiary than a man watching a scheme slip. He is the pressure point where the case's genteel premise starts to crack.
