First appearance: The Mouse
As a supporting figure in Short Fiction, Theodoric Voler is not background color—the story leans on what they do once the chapter opens.
Protagonist; a prim, sheltered man who suffers extreme embarrassment when a mouse invades his clothing during a train journey.
Theodoric Voler has been raised so gently that the ordinary world arrives as a series of ambushes, and a railway journey becomes an ordeal of etiquette and panic. His horror of embarrassment outweighs his horror of anything genuinely dangerous, which is precisely what makes him so vulnerable to the small indignities Saki arranges. His plight matters because it exposes how thin the line is between good manners and sheer paralysis.
