Mr. Birdsey made his fortune, married, and was promptly defined as a cipher in his own home, his duties being to make money and jump through hoops at the bidding of his wife and daughter Mae. When Mae married an earl and Mrs. Birdsey decreed the home would henceforth be in England, J. Wilmot was scooped out of his morris chair and decanted onto the Olympic like a clam. The one bright spot is a White Sox and Giants exhibition at Chelsea, where he sits in the front row and finds two kindred spirits who howl at the umpire.
