First appearance: The Adventure of the Western Star
As a supporting figure in Poirot Investigates, Miss Mary Marvell is not background color—the story leans on what they do once the chapter opens.
American film star who seeks Poirot's help regarding threatening letters about her diamond, the Western Star.
Mary Marvell arrives in England with her actor husband Gregory Rolf to a reception bordering on hysteria, her furs and jewels the talk of the town. She is followed through the streets by a bevy of admirers she is perfectly aware of, and she comes to Poirot because her prized Western Star is at the center of a threat. Her glamour is the bait, and her jewel the puzzle: a public woman whose private fear drives the case forward.
