Who is Captain Hook?

James Hook commands the Jolly Roger, haunted by the tick-tock crocodile that swallowed a clock after tasting Peter’s cut hand — and Hook’s rank. He is a caricature of adult vanity: Eton education, terror of bad form, hatred of Peter’s careless youth. Smee and the crew provide comic relief, but Hook plans murders and uses bombs.

Hook dies when Peter defeats him in battle and he falls to the crocodile — a release Barrie frames as theatrical justice. Villainy here is grown-up pride stuck in a game world. Compare Hook to Peter: both perform, but Hook remembers slights and cannot laugh at himself. That memory kills him.
