What happens

Mr. Vane encounters a mysterious visitor, Mr. Raven, who claims to have been his grandfather's librarian and a friend of his ancestor Sir Upward. Mr. Raven reveals that there is a door in Vane's house leading to another world, and demonstrates this by manipulating mirrors and sunlight in the garret, causing a vision of a distant landscape to appear. Vane is terrified and flees.
