Amrah has served the house of Hur since before Judah was born, and when the family is broken she does not leave. She tends the mother and Tirzah in their hidden cave, carries food and water, and keeps the small rituals of service that hold the three of them together. Her knowledge of the country and her willingness to risk the road make her the practical hand behind the women's journey toward the Nazarene, and her loyalty is one of the few constants in a story full of betrayals.
