First appearance: iv the old station
As a supporting figure in An Outback Marriage, Tommy Prince is not background color—the story leans on what they do once the chapter opens.
Mentioned as a potential guide who is away with a bullock-team.
Tommy Prince belongs to the buffalo camp out past the settled runs, the kind of bushman whose local knowledge makes the difference between a successful expedition and a fatal one. Hugh's whole journey hinges on reaching him, yet every hand that might have pointed the way has vanished, died, or drowned itself in drink, leaving Tommy a name spoken into chaos. His absence in the early chapters is its own kind of presence, the measure of how far Hugh has strayed from anything familiar.
