# Baby Roo — Winnie-the-Pooh character guide

> Baby Roo in Winnie-the-Pooh by A. A. Milne.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Roo, little Roo, Funny little Roo

**First appearance:** 0009-vii-in-which-kanga-and-baby-roo-come-to-the-forest-and-piglet-has-a-bath

## Snapshot

A small kangaroo who lives in his mother's pocket and becomes the prize in Rabbit's scheme to teach Kanga a lesson about belonging.

## Who they are

Roo is the Forest's youngest resident, carried in Kanga's pocket and passed from paw to paw when Rabbit decides the newcomer must be made to feel like an outsider. He is too little to know he is the object of a plot, which is exactly what makes the scheme so tender and so funny: Rabbit grows fonder of him by the minute even while using him as a pawn. His easy trust in whoever holds him tests the others' assumptions about family, and his return to Kanga's pocket restores the household the Forest didn't know it needed.
