## Snapshot

A weary, heavy old commander whom foreigners call crafty and Russians call a useful name, holding the army together by patience rather than brilliance.

## Who they are

Kutúzov commands the Russian forces against Napoleon in 1812, a veteran of Catherine's wars now mocked in foreign dispatches as dissolute and weak. Where younger officers crave decisive glory, he trusts time, attrition, and the stubborn endurance of ordinary soldiers. His refusal to fight on anyone else's terms becomes the quiet hinge on which the campaign's middle turns.
