## Snapshot

A grieving pasha who announces his son's martyrdom with forced fortitude, then breaks, while his wife's terrible silence outlasts his tears.

## Who they are

Yûsuf Pasha moves through Cairo's upper circles as a man whose public dignity is tested by private catastrophe. When word comes that his son has fallen as a martyr, he coaches himself to lead the boy's mother gently toward the glory of the death, only to weep profusely the moment the truth is spoken aloud. His collapse beside Barakah's stony tearlessness sets the emotional key for the household's mourning, making him the human measure of a grief the women around him ritualize and magnify.
