> Doctor Minoret in Ursule Mirouët by Honoré de Balzac.

**Role:** major

**Also known as:** old Doctor Minoret, Minoret, old Minoret, Denis Minoret, Doctor Denis Minoret

**First appearance:** 0001-ursule-mirou-t

## Snapshot

A retired court physician with an ironic smile and the Order of Saint-Michael, Doctor Minoret guards his ward with a tact that shames his social betters.

## Who they are

Doctor Minoret has brought his old manners and old money back to Nemours, where his generosity to Ursule excites suspicion rather than gratitude. At Madame de Portenduère's he absorbs her pointed snub without a flicker, then answers her son's flattery with a speech on fallen orders that is both rebuke and elegy. His health and his will are the two facts on which every other character's future silently depends.
