Bill considers going to America to seek his fortune, but Claire insists he could make money in London through directorships. Bill buys his ticket, then receives a message from Gerald Nichols saying 'Good news.'

Pauline, now a successful actress in America, pleads for Claire to come to New York to help her through a marital crisis with Algie, who has left home over her pet snake and monkey. Pauline has paid for Claire's passage on the steamship Atlantic. Claire, desperate to escape her dreary life, secures her berth and abandons her theater job, feeling triumphant as she looks forward to a new start.
