Wodehouse. **Role:** major **Also known as:** Ukridge, Mr. Ukridge, S. F. Ukridge, Stanley Ukridge, Good old Ukridge, the demon Ukridge, old Ukridge, the bloke Ukridge **First appearance:** 0001-ukridge-stories ## Snapshot A magnetic, penniless schemer in a yellow mackintosh who conscripts friends into get-rich-quick plots, from dog-training academies to boxing promotions, with sublime confidence and zero capital. ## Who they are Ukridge drifts through London and the country, perpetually between catastrophes, relying on charm, nerve, and the goodwill of long-suffering acquaintances like Corky. He is estranged from his formidable aunt Julia, pursued by creditors who lurk 'like leopards in the jungle,' and utterly convinced that each new venture is the idea of a thousand years. His schemes drive the book's comic engine, and his refusal to acknowledge failure makes him both infuriating and oddly endearing. ## Relationships ### [Laddie](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/ukridge_stories_se/characters/laddie) _friendship_ Laddie is a loyal and long-suffering friend who often gets dragged into Ukridge's wild schemes. ### [Battling Billson](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/ukridge_stories_se/characters/battling_billson) _rivalry_ Battling Billson is a pugnacious antagonist who frequently clashes with Ukridge, often leading to physical confrontations. ### [Mr. Thomas](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/ukridge_stories_se/characters/mr_thomas) _professional_ Mr. Thomas is a long-suffering landlord or creditor who is constantly trying to collect debts from the perpetually broke Ukridge. ### [Corky](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/ukridge_stories_se/characters/corky) _friendship_ Corky is a close friend and frequent accomplice in Ukridge's dubious business ventures. ### [George Tupper](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/ukridge_stories_se/characters/george_tupper) _friendship_ George Tupper is a steadfast friend who often provides moral and financial support to Ukridge. ### [Teddy Weeks](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/ukridge_stories_se/characters/teddy_weeks) _friendship_ Teddy Weeks is a friend and fellow schemer who participates in Ukridge's various get-rich-quick plots. ### [Uncle Percy](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/ukridge_stories_se/characters/uncle_percy) _family_ Uncle Percy is Ukridge's wealthy but exasperated uncle, often the target of Ukridge's pleas for money. ### [Joe the Lawyer](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/ukridge_stories_se/characters/joe_the_lawyer) _professional_ Joe the Lawyer is a legal professional who deals with the consequences of Ukridge's financial and legal troubles. ### [Dora Mason](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/ukridge_stories_se/characters/dora_mason) _romantic_ Dora Mason is a love interest of Ukridge, though their relationship is complicated by his unreliability. ### [Lady Lakenheath](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/ukridge_stories_se/characters/lady_lakenheath) _social_ Lady Lakenheath is a society figure who interacts with Ukridge, often as a target of his schemes or as a social connection. ### [Millie](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/ukridge_stories_se/characters/millie) _family_ Millie is Ukridge's long-suffering wife, who endures his harebrained schemes and financial instability. ### [Looney Coote](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/ukridge_stories_se/characters/looney_coote) _friendship_ Looney Coote is an eccentric friend who shares Ukridge's enthusiasm for improbable ventures. ## In the story ### [Dedication](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/ukridge_stories_se/chapters/dedication) Mentioned as the character introduced by Bill Townend. ### [Ukridge Stories](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/ukridge_stories_se/chapters/ukridge-stories) The central figure of the stories, a charismatic and endlessly scheming entrepreneur whose plans invariably go awry. ### [Ukridge's Dog College](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/ukridge_stories_se/chapters/ukridge-s-dog-college) Proposes biography scheme, then reveals his dog-training college plan;
