Chapter 2
Scene I
In a hall in Timon's house, various artists and merchants gather, praising Timon's generosity. Timon frees Ventidius from debt, arranges a marriage for his servant Lucilius, and welcomes flattery from the Poet, Painter, and Jeweller. Apemantus cynically criticizes the sycophants, and Alcibiades arrives for a feast.
Chapter 3
Scene II
Timon hosts a lavish banquet for his friends, including Ventidius, Alcibiades, and various lords and senators. He generously gives gifts and refuses repayment of debts, while Apemantus cynically observes and criticizes the false flattery and greed of the guests. Timon's steward Flavius worries privately about Timon's reckless spending and empty coffers.
