# Armand de Saint-Vire — These Old Shades character guide

> Armand de Saint-Vire in These Old Shades by Georgette Heyer.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Armand, Saint-Vire, the good Armand

**First appearance:** 0003-ii-introducing-the-comte-de-saint-vire

## Snapshot

The Comte de Saint-Vire's honorable son, a kind young man whose decency sits awkwardly beside his father's cold, calculating cruelty.

## Who they are

Known in society as 'the good Armand,' he moves through the same glittering salons as Avon and Léonie while carrying a name that others spit upon. His position is quietly impossible: he is heir to a man whose hatred of the Alastairs is legendary, and any friendship he forms with Léonie places him between two houses at war. His presence sharpens the question of whether goodness can survive inside a corrupt inheritance.
