> Dimitri Gerov in The Worst Journey in the World by Apsley Cherry-Garrard.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Dimitri

**First appearance:** 0003-the-worst-journey-in-the-world

## Snapshot

A Siberian dog driver whose skill with the sledge animals gives the expedition its fastest and most fragile means of moving supplies across the ice.

## Who they are

Dimitri Gerov handles the dogs, a job that demands equal parts patience, toughness, and an unspoken understanding with creatures that can save or doom a party. His world is the kennel and the trace, set apart from the naval hierarchy that governs the rest of the ship. When the dogs falter or the weather turns, his expertise becomes the difference between a depot laid and a depot lost.
