# Gorgo — The Wonderful Adventures of Nils character guide > Gorgo in The Wonderful Adventures of Nils by Selma Lagerlöf. **Role:** supporting **First appearance:** 0068-gorgo-the-eagle ## Snapshot Raised in Akka's eyrie and taught to scorn his own kind, this proud eagle must decide whether the wild geese who fostered him are prey or family. ## Who they are Gorgo belongs to two worlds and is fully at home in neither: the eagle's cliff where he was hatched and the goose flock that Akka raised him among. His pride is genuine and his grievance real, since the other birds never quite let him forget what he is. When he crosses paths with Nils and the wild geese, that divided loyalty becomes a test of whether gratitude can outweigh instinct. ## Relationships ### [Akka](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_wonderful_adventures_of_nils_se/characters/akka) _friendship_ Akka mentors and guides Gorgo, a young eagle, fostering a bond of trust and respect despite their different species. ### [Nils Holgersson](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_wonderful_adventures_of_nils_se/characters/nils_holgersson) _friendship_ Gorgo, the young eagle, and Nils form a loyal friendship, with Gorgo often helping Nils in exchange for kindness. ### [Akka](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_wonderful_adventures_of_nils_se/characters/akka) _friendship_ Akka mentors and guides Gorgo, a young eagle, fostering a bond of trust and respect despite their different species. ## In the story ### [The Sisters](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_wonderful_adventures_of_nils_se/chapters/the-sisters) The eagle who fights Morten Goosey-Gander but spares him upon hearing Akka's name. ### [Gorgo, the Eagle](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_wonderful_adventures_of_nils_se/chapters/gorgo-the-eagle) A young eagle raised by Akka, torn between his wild instincts and his upbringing. ### [In the Mountain Glen](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_wonderful_adventures_of_nils_se/chapters/in-the-mountain-glen) The young eagle raised by Akka and the wild geese, who grows up believing he is a goose but eventually discovers his true identity and is banished for acting on his predatory instincts. ### [In Captivity](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_wonderful_adventures_of_nils_se/chapters/in-captivity) A young golden eagle captured and caged at Skansen; falls into a torpor but is freed by Nils filing the cage wires; later returns to rescue Nils. ### [The Precious Girdle](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_wonderful_adventures_of_nils_se/chapters/the-precious-girdle) Eagle who kidnaps Nils from Skansen, reveals he was raised by Akka, and seeks Nils's help to make peace; flies Nils north and goes hunting. ### [A Large Green Leaf](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_wonderful_adventures_of_nils_se/chapters/a-large-green-leaf) Flies Nils over Hälsingland to find Clement Larsson, eventually spotting him at a stock farm. ### [In Medelpad](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_wonderful_adventures_of_nils_se/chapters/in-medelpad) Guides Nils over Medelpad, explaining the forest harvest and pointing out lumber camps, log-driving, and Sundsvall. ### [The Bread](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_wonderful_adventures_of_nils_se/chapters/the-bread) The golden eagle who carries Nils, attempts to get food, is harassed by small birds, and finally accepts a bun offered by a peasant woman. ### [The Forest Fire](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_wonderful_adventures_of_nils_se/chapters/the-forest-fire) Gorgo the golden eagle arrives to rescue Nils from the aftermath of the fire. ### [The Moving Landscape](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_wonderful_adventures_of_nils_se/chapters/the-moving-landscape) Carries Nils on a flight into Lapland, then leaves him sleeping in a ravine. ### [The First Travelling Day](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_wonderful_adventures_of_nils_se/chapters/the-first-travelling-day) Mentioned as having spent happy hours with Nils and Akka during the summer, taking him on long trips. ### [The Gift of the Wild Geese](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_wonderful_adventures_of_nils_se/chapters/the-gift-of-the-wild-geese) Meets Akka and Nils on the island; reports his failed mission to negotiate with the elf for Nils's easier return to human form. ## Links - HTML: https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_wonderful_adventures_of_nils_se/characters/gorgo - Book: https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_wonderful_adventures_of_nils_se - All characters: https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_wonderful_adventures_of_nils_se/characters
