# Sir Wilson Seymour — The Wisdom of Father Brown character guide

> Sir Wilson Seymour in The Wisdom of Father Brown by G. K. Chesterton.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Sir Wilson, old Seymour, Seymour

**First appearance:** 0005-the-man-in-the-passage

## Snapshot

An elderly gentleman of the old school, drawn into a strange case involving a man glimpsed in a passage and a story no one can quite believe.

## Who they are

Sir Wilson Seymour moves through the affair with the unhurried authority of a man who has spent a lifetime being listened to, which makes his confusion all the more unsettling to the people around him. He is the kind of witness whose word should settle a matter, and yet what he has seen refuses to settle into any comfortable explanation. His presence raises the stakes of the mystery: if a man like Seymour cannot account for what happened, then the ordinary rules are not holding.
