Concepts
Ideas that structure The Way to God and How to Find It by D. L. Moody — linked to characters, chapters, and questions.
The Love of God
The book emphasizes that God's love is the foundation of salvation and that many people mistakenly believe God hates them, which keeps them from coming to Him.
The Necessity of the New Birth
Moody stresses that being 'born again' is essential for entering the kingdom of God, and that this spiritual regeneration is a work of God, not human effort.
True Repentance
The book clarifies that repentance is not merely feeling sorry, fasting, or breaking one sin, but a complete turning around—a change of mind and direction away from sin toward God.
Faith and Belief in Christ
Salvation is presented as coming through believing in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and personal Saviour, not through works or religious rituals.
The Divinity of Christ
Moody argues that Jesus Christ is either God incarnate or a deceiver, and that His divine nature is central to the Christian faith and to salvation.
Assurance of Salvation
The book teaches that believers can and should know with certainty that they have eternal life, and that this assurance is essential for effective Christian service.
Backsliding and Restoration
A major theme is the danger of turning away from God after conversion, and the loving call for backsliders to return, with God's willingness to forgive and restore.
Christ as the Way and Light
Christ is portrayed as the only path to God, the light that dispels spiritual darkness, and the guide who leads believers through life's wilderness.
Human Inability and Divine Grace
The book emphasizes that humans cannot save themselves or overcome sin through their own strength, and that salvation is entirely a gift of God's grace.
