# Dab-Dab — The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle character guide

> Dab-Dab in The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle by Hugh Lofting.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Bob, IV Bob Dab-Dab

**First appearance:** 0005-part-i-iii-the-doctor-s-home

## Snapshot

A practical, house-proud duck who runs the Doctor's kitchen and household, keeping order among the animals and fretting over his meals.

## Who they are

Dab-Dab is the one who notices when Jip is late, keeps Chee-Chee's bed ready and reminds the Doctor to wash his hands before lunch. Her fussing is affection: she worries about the household while the Doctor worries about the world, and she misses Puddleby keenly during the long tropical years abroad. Grounded and unsentimental, she gives the ramshackle menagerie its domestic spine.
