## Snapshot

The beautiful, wealthy young woman once promised to Mr. Thornhill, whose heart still belongs to George Primrose and whose arrival at the prison changes everything.

## Who they are

Arabella Wilmot is the vicar's former pupil and the heiress whose marriage to Mr. Thornhill is arranged by her father, Sir William, largely for the match's advantage. She is generous, affectionate, and loyal to the Primrose family, and her accidental discovery of their ruin in prison leads her to confront Thornhill's villainy directly. Her constancy to George, despite believing him lost to America, makes her the emotional counterweight to the novel's darker schemers.
