## Snapshot

The Saviour whom most believers never see, yet whose mere idea has proved powerful enough to reorganize lives across centuries.

## Who they are

James notes that few Christians have had a sensible vision of their Saviour, yet the whole force of the religion is exerted through pure ideas with no direct model in experience. Christ thus becomes the test case for Kant's strange doctrine: a mind believing with all its strength in a reality it cannot picture. His absent presence haunts the lectures as the supreme example of how an unseen object can polarize a life.
