## Snapshot

The Fentiman family's cautious, elderly solicitor, who would rather see a fortune settled quietly than dragged through the courts.

## Who they are

Mr. Murbles is the Lincoln's Inn solicitor entrusted with the Fentiman and Dormer affairs, a man so discreet that Wimsey suspects him of talking out of turn and so proper that he recoils from the messiness of a contested will. He wants the survivorship question resolved without scandal, and it is he who quietly sets Wimsey to investigating the General's last hours. His cautious overtures to the opposing solicitor, Pritchard, are rebuffed, and his very reasonableness becomes a small pressure point in a case where nobody quite wants the truth told plainly.
