# Bunter — The Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club character guide

> Bunter in The Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club by Dorothy L. Sayers.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** the retreating Bunter, M. Bunter, old Bunter

**First appearance:** 0001-i-old-mossy-face

## Snapshot

Lord Peter Wimsey's imperturbable valet, whose photographic memory and quiet competence make him indispensable to more than just his master's wardrobe.

## Who they are

Bunter is Wimsey's valet and, in practice, his field assistant — a man who can press a suit, develop a plate, or take a discreet statement with the same unflappable precision. He served under Wimsey in the war and has translated that loyalty into a domestic role that quietly exceeds its job description. When the Bellona affair turns from awkward to criminal, Bunter's steady presence and eye for detail keep the investigation moving while his employer performs his usual flippancy.
