# Andrew Beggars — The Unicorn from the Stars character guide

> Andrew Beggars in The Unicorn from the Stars by Lady Gregory.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Andrew, Andrew Thomas, Thomas

**First appearance:** 0001-the-unicorn-from-the-stars

## Snapshot

Thomas's brother, once wild and rambling, now settled into the coachbuilding trade but still fond of talking vanities with beggars by the road.

## Who they are

Andrew Hearne was shaped by his brother's watchful discipline, pulled back from wandering and pressed into the business when poverty nipped. He is the one sent for the doctor, yet he lingers with the troop of beggars outside, suggesting a lingering sympathy for the unsettled life. His divided loyalty between family duty and the road's pull quietly foreshadows the play's larger conflict.
