## Who they are

Adelia Applegate greets the Hardy boys with suspicion and a sniff, dismissing detectives as nosey and insisting the jewels will never be found. Dressed in outdated, garish finery and quick to needle her brother, she clings to the theory that Robinson is the thief and scoffs at every new lead. Her skepticism makes her a comic foil and a stubborn obstacle the boys must win over as they search the towers.
