Marie Fauville is the widow at the center of a scandal that consumes Paris: her husband Hippolyte is dead, and the letters he left behind seem designed to destroy her. She is caught between grief, suspicion, and the damning posthumous accusations of a man who may have hated her enough to frame her from the grave.
