## Snapshot

Lucentio's dignified father from Pisa, who arrives in Padua expecting a welcome and instead finds himself branded an impostor at his own son's door.

## Who they are

Vincentio is a respected merchant of Pisa and Lucentio's father, whose journey to Padua to see his son's progress collides with the tangled disguises his son has left behind. Proud, hot-tempered, and bewildered, he is mistaken for a fraud by the Pedant and even denied by Biondello, prompting him to beat the servant in fury. His arrival forces the play's deceptions to unravel, and his outrage at being called a cozener makes him both a comic victim and the instrument of the plot's eventual clarification.
