# How does The Survivors develop the theme of Survival and Adaptation?

> The Survivors by Tom Godwin

## Answer

The Survivors by Tom Godwin develops Survival and Adaptation across the chapters the companion marks for this theme.

The colonists must adapt to the harsh, alien world of Ragnarok after being abandoned by the Gerns, facing extreme climates, dangerous wildlife, and scarce resources to survive and build a new society.

The Rejects must immediately adapt to the deadly environment of Ragnarok, facing starvation, predators, and a lack of technology.

The Rejects struggle to survive on Ragnarok and adapt by creating a school and preserving knowledge.

Humbolt's harrowing trek across the Craigs and the colony's gradual adaptation of mockers and corn to higher elevations exemplify the constant struggle to survive on Ragnarok.
