# What Revenge and Justice means in The Survivors

> The survivors harbor a deep, generations-long hatred for the Gerns who destroyed their ship and killed their loved ones, driving their goal to escape Ragnarok and exact vengeance.

## Explanation

The survivors harbor a deep, generations-long hatred for the Gerns who destroyed their ship and killed their loved ones, driving their goal to escape Ragnarok and exact vengeance.

Lake disembowels the Gern officers who killed a boy, and the colonists manipulate Narth into revealing his treachery, showing a harsh, retributive justice.

Revenge and Justice is one of the patterns The Survivors by Tom Godwin returns to. The chapter notes above are from this edition’s companions — open those chapters to see how the book stages the idea rather than treating the theme as a slogan.
