# John Prentiss — The Survivors character guide

> John Prentiss in The Survivors by Tom Godwin.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Prentiss

**First appearance:** 0001-the-survivors

## Snapshot

A steady, capable presence among the survivors, the kind of man a leader counts on when the work is hard and the odds are worse.

## Who they are

Prentiss belongs to the generation that must carry out Lake's plans after the Old Ones are gone, the practical hands behind the hunting, prospecting, and shipbuilding. He is defined less by a single dramatic choice than by reliability: the sort of survivor who shows up, does the dangerous work, and keeps the group's fragile unity intact. In the early-to-middle arc, his competence is what makes the difference between a plan on paper and a plan that survives contact with Ragnarok.
