# Howard Craig — The Survivors character guide

> Howard Craig in The Survivors by Tom Godwin.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Craig, the grim Craig

**First appearance:** 0001-the-survivors

## Snapshot

A grim, determined survivor whose careful mapping of the plateau gives the colony its first real picture of the world it must conquer.

## Who they are

Craig is one of the Old Ones, the generation that sacrificed its years so the Young Ones might have a chance, and his surveys of the mountains become lasting landmarks. His grimness reflects what Ragnarok has cost him, yet his work outlives him in the maps the next generation uses. He matters because his careful, unglamorous labor is the foundation on which the colony's later expeditions and plans are built.
