## Who they are

Fenrir belongs to the vanished years before the Gerns, when a boy with a bow and knife felt that nothing in the universe could defy him and his two prowlers together. The memory of Sigyn's pups and Fenrir's tall black shape walking beside him haunts the present, a private measure of what has been lost. That ache matters as the survivors prepare their trap: the story keeps asking whether the old bond between man and beast can still be trusted when the cruiser finally lands.
