# How does The Surprising Adventures of Baron Munchausen develop the theme of Intertextuality and Literary Parody?

> The Surprising Adventures of Baron Munchausen by Rudolph Erich Raspe

## Answer

The Surprising Adventures of Baron Munchausen by Rudolph Erich Raspe develops Intertextuality and Literary Parody across the chapters the companion marks for this theme.

The book references and parodies other famous works and characters, such as Gulliver, Don Quixote, and Sinbad, placing the Baron in a tradition of imaginary voyages while mocking their conventions.

The inclusion of Gulliver, Sinbad, and Aladdin as witnesses creates a playful crossover of famous literary and folkloric figures.

The chapter parodies biblical stories (David and Goliath) and references Shakespeare.

Directly parodies Don Quixote and chivalric epics, blending them with absurd elements like frogs and gingerbread.
