# Alice Bastable — The Story of the Treasure Seekers character guide > Alice Bastable in The Story of the Treasure Seekers by E. Nesbit. **Role:** major **Also known as:** Alice, Alicia, Little Alice **First appearance:** 0001-the-story-of-the-treasure-seekers ## Snapshot Noël's twin and the family's would-be maker, whose lopsided knitted scarf becomes a scarlet pennon for the Bastable cause. ## Who they are Alice is ten, Noël's twin, and the Bastable who tries to make things — including a red scarf for her brother's delicate chest that turned out much wider at one end. The scarf became a pennon instead, a splash of scarlet against the family's black and grey since Mother died. She is kind-hearted and inventive, and her small domestic projects, however imperfect, show the family's stubborn cheerfulness in reduced circumstances. ## Relationships ### [Oswald Bastable](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_story_of_the_treasure_seekers_se/characters/oswald_bastable) _family_ Alice and Oswald are siblings who frequently interact, with Alice often acting as a sensible counterpart to Oswald's adventurous schemes. ### [Albert Morrison](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_story_of_the_treasure_seekers_se/characters/albert_morrison) _friendship_ Albert Morrison is a neighbor and friend of Alice, frequently joining the Bastable children in their exploits. ### [Dicky Bastable](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_story_of_the_treasure_seekers_se/characters/dicky_bastable) _family_ Alice and Dicky are siblings who share a close bond and often team up in schemes. ### [Dora Bastable](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_story_of_the_treasure_seekers_se/characters/dora_bastable) _family_ Alice and Dora are sisters, with Dora often taking a responsible, older-sister role toward Alice. ### [H.
