# How does The Son of the Wolf develop the theme of The Quest for Wealth and Meaning?

> The Son of the Wolf by Jack London

## Answer

The Son of the Wolf by Jack London develops The Quest for Wealth and Meaning across the chapters the companion marks for this theme.

Characters are driven by the search for gold and material success, yet the narrative often contrasts this with deeper human needs for love, family, and purpose, suggesting that true wealth lies beyond mere fortune.

Cal Galbraith's restlessness and the lure of the Klondike gold rush lead him to abandon his family in search of fortune and excitement.

The ball is a microcosm of gold rush society, where wealth (measured in 'dust') is gambled on trivialities like identifying a dancer, reflecting the search for meaning in a harsh environment.

The Klondike setting and the mention of gold, otter skins, and trade reflect the pursuit of wealth, while the Strange One's journey suggests a search for meaning.
