# Prince Ghyka — The Slaves of the Padishah character guide

> Prince Ghyka in The Slaves of the Padishah by Mór Jókai.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Ghyka, The Prince

**First appearance:** 0001-the-slaves-of-the-padishah

## Snapshot

A prince caught between the ceremonial weight of his new throne and the whispered counsel of Teleki, his authority shadowed by Ottoman expectations.

## Who they are

Prince Ghyka presides over the Estates of Transylvania at a moment of collective dread, mounting a newly built canopied throne as if it were a sentence rather than an honour. Beside him sits the empty chair of Michael Teleki, whose two hours of private talk have visibly shaped the prince's troubled bearing. His hesitation on the steps and his deep sigh before sitting reveal a ruler who feels the office as a burden, and his struggle to command the council while Teleki and Nalaczi manipulate the room defines the fragile politics of the early arc.
