# Koorookh — The Shaving of Shagpat character guide

> Koorookh in The Shaving of Shagpat by George Meredith.

**Role:** supporting

**First appearance:** 0015-koorookh

## Snapshot

A magical horse that carries Shibli Bagarag across the strange geographies of his quest, swift as wind and loyal to the chosen hero.

## Who they are

Koorookh belongs to the enchanted machinery of the quest, a steed of supernatural speed and intelligence placed at Shibli Bagarag's service as he moves between cities, seas, and palaces. The tension he embodies is that of a creature bound to a mortal's errand — his power is borrowed, and it serves only as long as the hero's purpose holds. He matters because without him the geography of the tale would be impassable; he is the means by which Shibli reaches the trials that test his faithfulness, and a quiet emblem of the aid that surrounds a questing man.
