# Chet Morton — The Secret of the Caves character guide > Chet Morton in The Secret of the Caves by Franklin W. Dixon. **Role:** supporting **Also known as:** Chet, the bashful Chet **First appearance:** 0000-i-overboard ## Snapshot The Hardys' perpetually hungry friend, who would rather sleep than chase burglars but never actually abandons the search when it counts. ## Who they are Chet is the comic anchor of the group — snoring through the night, grumbling when Joe rouses everyone to hunt a prowler, and taking the theft of the food supplies almost personally. Yet when Frank is missing, Chet's protests fade and he trudges through the caves with the rest, sobered by the thought of what may have happened. His appetite and reluctance make the boys' ordeal feel human rather than heroic. ## Relationships ### [Frank Hardy](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_secret_of_the_caves_se/characters/frank_hardy) _friendship_ Chet Morton is Frank's close friend and frequent companion, often joining in on investigations. ### [Joe Hardy](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_secret_of_the_caves_se/characters/joe_hardy) _friendship_ Chet Morton is Joe's good friend and a loyal member of the Hardy boys' circle. ### [Biff Hooper](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_secret_of_the_caves_se/characters/biff_hooper) _friendship_ Biff Hooper and Chet Morton are friends and often work together with the Hardy boys. ### [Captain Royal](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_secret_of_the_caves_se/characters/captain_royal) _professional_ Captain Royal interacts with Chet Morton as a helpful adult figure during their adventures. ### [Frank Hardy](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_secret_of_the_caves_se/characters/frank_hardy) _friendship_ Chet Morton is Frank's close friend and frequent companion, often joining in on investigations. ### [Captain Royal](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_secret_of_the_caves_se/characters/captain_royal) _professional_ Captain Royal interacts with Chet Morton as a helpful adult figure during their adventures. ### [Frank Hardy](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_secret_of_the_caves_se/characters/frank_hardy) _friendship_ Chet Morton is Frank's close friend and frequent companion, often joining in on investigations. ### [Joe Hardy](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_secret_of_the_caves_se/characters/joe_hardy) _friendship_ Chet Morton is Joe's good friend and a loyal member of the Hardy boys' circle. ### [Joe Hardy](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_secret_of_the_caves_se/characters/joe_hardy) _friendship_ Chet Morton is Joe's good friend and a loyal member of the Hardy boys' circle. ### [Biff Hooper](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_secret_of_the_caves_se/characters/biff_hooper) _friendship_ Biff Hooper and Chet Morton are friends and often work together with the Hardy boys. ### [Biff Hooper](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_secret_of_the_caves_se/characters/biff_hooper) _friendship_ Biff Hooper and Chet Morton are friends and often work together with the Hardy boys. ### [Captain Royal](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_secret_of_the_caves_se/characters/captain_royal) _professional_ Captain Royal interacts with Chet Morton as a helpful adult figure during their adventures. ## In the story ### [Concerning Todham Todd](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_secret_of_the_caves_se/chapters/iv-concerning-todham-todd) Leads a group of chums in presenting mock medals to the Hardy boys for the rescue. ### [Plans for a Trip](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_secret_of_the_caves_se/chapters/v-plans-for-a-trip) Enthusiastic about the treasure story and volunteers his motorbike. ### [The Missing Motorcycle](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_secret_of_the_caves_se/chapters/vi-the-missing-motorcycle) Chet jokes about sodas and throws Biff's shoe;
