# Elfride Vorski — The Secret of Sarek character guide

> Elfride Vorski in The Secret of Sarek by Maurice Leblanc.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Elfride, the gentle Vorski, the aforesaid Vorski

**First appearance:** 0001-the-secret-of-sarek

## Snapshot

Vorski's wife, trapped in his schemes and the collapsing underground passages of Sarek, she is the quiet counterweight to her husband's theatrical cruelty.

## Who they are

Elfride exists at the edges of Vorski's violent enterprises, a woman whose presence in the story is felt more through what she endures than what she does. When Vorski collapses in despair after the blocked staircase, Conrad's contempt for him sharpens by contrast: Elfride's suffering, though barely voiced, exposes the cowardice beneath her husband's grandiosity. She matters because her fate is bound to the island's secrets, and the men who control her fate are the same men racing toward the story's central mystery.
